Lift Club SA - a green solution

“Many of the problems experienced in major cities are the result of outmoded transport planning. These include congestion, urban sprawl, air and noise pollution, loss of green and natural space and an increased demand for fossil fuels… “(City of Cape Town, 2006)

As traffic congestion reaches crisis proportions authorities are at pains to reduce the number of private cars on the road. This is causing increased frustration among drivers on the one hand, while on the other hand, the many commuters are faced with inadequate public transport. The ongoing rise in fuel prices has also hit every household budget hard.

It is in this context that Liftclub South Africa is being enthusiastically embraced country-wide. Its growth has been remarkable. The use of lift clubs, carpools and lift-sharing has been quite popular overseas for a long time already.
